Are you ready to work well and live well? We’re searching for motivated junior to mid-level consultants for engaging, mission-driven part-time contract work.
At MatchPace *our* mission is to empower organizations to accomplish *their* mission better. We do this by helping them create a healthy, sustainable pace for their organization that enables them to increase engagement, reduce turnover, and eliminate burnout.
Background
MatchPace takes a holistic approach to organizational transformation. We use consulting and coaching services to help organizations reimagine their workday.
We are seeking motivated, collaborative consultants and coaches to join our growing team to serve our clients on project-based engagements.
Work Description
MatchPace is always building an active roster of consultants to work on client engagements on an as-needed basis. Consultants are independent contractors that perform specific consulting tasks and services within finite periods for MatchPace.

Consultant Profile
We are looking for consultants with a broad range of knowledge and experience. The industry or function professionals have experience in can vary, but we are looking for those who have a deep interest in sustainable work environments.
Specifically, we seek professionals with experience and expertise in:
Organizational change management
Leadership training
Organizational vision and strategy setting
Business operations improvement
Coaching - *trained* coaches (accredited through ICF or Co-Active training) who understand that coaching is a distinct skill from consulting
If you are a coach and consultant, all the better!
We are looking for:
Strong utility-player consultants who are: excellent listeners, dot-connectors, good at building relationships with all types of people, adept at various modes of communication (in-person, email, virtual meetings), lover of sticky notes, and good at slide building (we use Google Slides)
Consultants who are able to be engaged as needed with minimal supervision (we don’t micromanage!)
Consultants who will be responsible for their own work environment, tools, supplies and equipment
We seek collaborators who are interested in part-time work and who:
Are adaptable
Actively listen and confidently respond with concise thoughts that focus on solutions
Have a passion for and experience with a non-traditional work environment
Understand and thrive in a team culture
Are intrinsically motivated
Have an innate desire to see organizations operate more effectively
Have a strong sense of responsibility for the work entrusted to them by clients
Are emotionally intelligent, are direct with constructive feedback, and are receptive to constructive feedback
Know when to ask for help, do not need or want hand-holding, but aren’t offended by guidance
Believe there is always more to learn and are motivated by continuous improvement
Can anticipate the needs and concerns of others - specifically clients, thinking five steps ahead
Junior-to-Mid-Level Consultants
Right now we are looking for Junior-to-Mid-Level consultants. What do we mean by that? While it’s flexible, we consider the following distinctions:
Junior: new to consulting or with limited experience. Very action oriented, quick learner, bias towards action, willing to support administrative functions of an engagement. Likes variety, likes to figure things out. Scrappy.
Mid-Level: has experience consulting, understands how to shape solutions to meet client needs, can hold multiple perspectives simultaneously, would be comfortable being the engagement lead (with a Senior Advisor to support you as a thought partner and with the client relationship). Scrappy.
Senior: has many consulting frameworks and perspectives from your experience ready to deploy and adapt as needed. Strong partner for Junior and Mid-Level consultants. Exceptional at building client relationships and business development. Also scrappy :)
Why “scrappy?” Consulting is known for being rather fast paced, with sometimes ambiguous assignments. While we *absolutely* prioritize working at a sustainable pace with flexibility, there’s a level of “quick turn” or “don’t worry, I’ve got it (or I’ll figure it out)” needed in consulting. If you like that kind of work, and want to do it in a healthy manner, please apply!
Application Process
In order to be considered please submit:
A cover letter that describes your skills, project interests, availability
Link to your LinkedIn profile or CV/resume with expertise, employment history, and/or consultancy history covering the last 5-10 years (note that if you share your LinkedIn profile, you do not have to send a separate resume, however if you want to expand on your experience beyond what is on LinkedIn, please provide a separate sheet)
An introductory video – please upload a brief, 2 minute video of yourself. It doesn’t have to be fancy, just shoot it on your phone, or have a friend take it. Please introduce yourself, tell us why MatchPace is interesting to you, and why you, yourself, want to work at a sustainable pace.
How We Work
Client engagements typically last 6-12 months, depending on the project and follow-on. Level of effort per engagement will vary from 5-20 hours/week
We have strong frameworks to bound an engagement, and are open to new ideas or ways of looking at things
Iterative – we like quick turns and team perspectives - one teammate creates the 60% solution, someone else “turns it” to the 75% solution, then we refine to the 95% solution (while we pride ourselves on doing *excellent* work, 95% is good enough for us, perfection is impossible)
Next Steps
We’ll review your submission, and if it seems like a good fit, we’ll:
Schedule an initial virtual meeting via Zoom
If that goes well, we’ll meet for a cup of coffee if you are based locally in Washington, DC or Philadelphia, PA
For those that are based outside of the Washington DC or Philadelphia, PA metro areas, we will connect for a second virtual meeting via Zoom
We’ll check a reference or two
If there is a strong positive connection, we’ll proceed with a brief paid project so we can all get a feel for one another
Finally, we’ll add you to our roster of coaches and consultants and reach out when new projects emerge
